Hi, thanks for entertaining reading!
I am a Swedish mum of a four month old girl, arrived in tokyo only a week ago! Do you have any good tips, recommendations on what we can do and where to go. Live in Ebisu area! Thanx!
Hi Anna,
Welcome to Tokyo! I live in Koto-ku nr Kinshicho, unfortunately nowhere nr Ebisu. My son is 21 months old and my daughter is just 3wks old.
I can recommend The Tokyo Metropolitan Children’s Hall in Shibuya. I often go there but not sure when I’ll next be venturing out into the big smoke. I have to perfect the art of double kiddie management first. Hope we can meet up sometime in a few months.

for more places of interest and information. You’ll get to meet lots of other ex-pat English speakers through this group and they usually all live in Shibuya-ku/Minato-ku areas and so will have more info on things local to you.
Hope this helps
Hi there, as we are moving to Koto-ku the beginning of February I just cam across your blog, searching for some good hospitals nearby (e.g. the Toho Women Clinic)…
I will live with my Japanese husband in Sengoku, Toyocho and would be happy to meet new people around here…although no
kids yet, I hope Koto-ku will be a good place to raise a family…
best for now
Heide
Hello Heide,
Thanks for dropping by! I live very close to Toyocho. My nearest station is Sumiyoshi. I moved here from Kamakura 4 yrs ago and have found it really good for raising a family. Tokyo is very child friendly, but I think out in the sticks more so. My daughter was born at Toho clinic and I can highly recommend it. I’m guessing you are expecting now, right? How many months to go?
There is a group of foreign mums living in and around Koto-ku/Adachi-ku/Sumida-ku who meet regularly so you are amongst friends living out this way. Hope to meet up with you sometime soon. I can forward your mail address if you like to our “leader” Sachiko and she’ll add you to our email list so you can know when there is a meeting.
Keep in touch,
Gina
Hello Gina,
thanks for your advice and I just found out that I am pregnant, so I should go to have a check up soon after we moved. Toho Hospital sounds good. Can you recommend a doctor or should I just go and see? Also thanks for forwarding my email to Sachiko, I would be happy to meet other people in the area… anyway, in the midst of packing, I will get back in touch once we settled down, best Heide
Congratulations! I always made my appointments with Dr Takeuchi (male). He was very nice. The staff are all very nice actually. Do you need an English speaking doctor? The boss of the clinic speaks English (Mitsumine? sensei), Wada sensei too and Takeuchi sensei also speaks English I believe.
Good luck with the move.
Hi,
I just stumbled across your blog on Tokyo Mothers’ Group and was excited to see that you live in Koto-ku and there is a group of foreign mothers who live in the area. I live in Koto-ku too but in Kameido and all the mothers that I have met so far live on Hiroo side of town so not exactly convenient. I have a 7 month old daughter, Trinity. If you had any information on things to do in this area or groups I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Suzanne
Hi Suzanne,
I live nr Nishi Ojima so we are quite close. I have a friend in Kameido too! There is a group of foreigners in and around this area so if you let me know your email address, I can forward it to Sachiko “our leader”! Team North East meets every week. I work so can’t get to many meetings but I bet we can meet up some time as we live close to each other.
Hope to meet you soon… gotta dash and pick up the kids from daycare..
Gina
Hi Gina,

Hi Gina
I thought it was you! I just happened to find your blog when I googled hairdressers for foreign hair in Koto-ku (?????)
Hope that you are well. We miss you in Japanese class, and we still need that coffee we have been talking about forever.
It sounds interesting with your mom-group. Can a mom with an eight year old join too?
Let us get together again!
Best regards
Dorthe
… and I have been reading some more of your pages. I love you blog already!
Hey Dorthe,
Nice to hear from you. How are you doing? Can’t get to the class these days as I work 5 days now.
Glad you like the blog – very theraputic I find, though don’t do it as often as I’d like.
We should get together sometime soon – send me an email to;
ginafielding@hotmail.com
would love to catch up.
take care
Gina
..and Dorthe, I’m sure you’d be very welcome at the mums’ group. I think there is a tentative plan to meet this week (Sun or Mon) in Sarue Koen (up the river from Pal City between Sumiyoshi and Kinshicho) for a picnicky thing. The weather looks good so should be a nice opportunity to get the kids in the park. I am free either day and will be there. Most kids are younger than your daughter. The oldest being 5 yrs old and then James who’s nearly 4. Quite a few two yr olds. Good excuse to hang out with other mums and as it’s GW I expect a few dads will be there too.
mail me!!
